Job Description

This is a senior role responsible for providing leadership in finance and business assurance. You will be planning and managing the internal audit programme for the KiwiRail Group, where you will be providing leadership, project management and reporting on all aspects of the programme. You will work with the Group's internal audit partner as well as focusing on delivering process improvements across the business. This is a new role where you will have the opportunity to be a champion for finance and business transformation, ensuring best practice processes and controls are developed and maintained within KiwiRail.

This role requires a collaborative and engaging approach to drive and promote effective processes and controls in the business. It is critical that, in executing the role, appropriate independence is maintained.

Some key components of the role include:

Provide strategic direction and leadership in assurance and process improvement throughout KiwiRail. Specifically, provide leadership of a multi-year programme of assurance of business systems and processes, financial and accounting systems, and IT controls.
Manage the overall internal audit programme, the results of which will help the business manage financial and IT risks, improve or develop efficient and effective processes, identify and communicate best practices, and facilitate an appropriate control environment
Lead cross functional teams to document and analyse the effectiveness of strategic, financial and operational business processes from a risk and control perspective; and to recommend and implement improvements
Proactively champion and promote effective internal financial control across the business to mitigate the risk of fraud and error.
To be successful in this role you will be a seasoned professional from an internal audit or similar role, with exposure ideally to transport, logistics or large scale infrastructure experience. You will have the ability to analyse and interpret complex issues and information and then present in simple, clear ways to enable effective decisions. You will have worked within large and complex organisations that have had significant capital projects. Experience managing an external audit partner would be an advantage.

KiwiRail has played a key role in driving the economic growth in New Zealand for over 150 years, as the backbone of our country's integrated transport network. This is an exciting time to join our organisation as we embark on a journey of sustainability, growth and future-focused leadership.
